University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Yell Leader Information

Purpose: The UMHB Yell Leaders are a co-ed squad whose purpose is, ultimately, to dedicate and serve our loving Father God. The Yell Leaders also promote school spirit, both on and off campus in most athletic and school sponsored events. This is done by their attendance to all football games, home soccer, volleyball, and basketball games as well as pep rallies, guest appearances, etc.

Eligibility: The become a UMHB Yell Leader you must be an accepted student (whether an incoming freshman or transfer) or currently enrolled. All candidates must have at least a 2.0 GPA (not applicable to those who have not taken any college courses). This GPA must be maintained the entire time you are a member of the squad.

Practice: The Yell Leaders also practice five hours a week with practice times being Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 pm - 11 pm and Wednesdays from 10 pm - 11pm (depending on the gym availability).

Squad Size: The squad size of the UMHB Yell Leaders fluctuates from year to year. Generally the squad consists of about 3- 8 guys and 8 - 12 girls making up a squad of 12 to 18 members. The squad size does, however, have the potential to reach a maximum of 20, or more if deemed my administration.

Summer Cheer Camp: Summer cheer camp attendance is
mandatory for all squad members, as most of the material learned and used throughout the year is learned at that year's cheer camp. The Yell Leaders attend
CCA College Camp, which is usually held the third or fourth week of July. All other material used throughout the year (i.e. chants, fight song, traditions, and other) will be taught during the first practices of the year.

Cost: UMHB funds ALL monies for camp clothes, , shoes, poms, uniforms, etc., as well as meal money on away trips. In October the Yell Leaders begin fundrasing to cover their national competition travelling expenses.
